I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I felt pretty comfortable on the course during the tournament. It was nice to have a little local support, and there was some cheering with my early birdies. I was off to a good start in both rounds, running into a little trouble in the middle part of each day. I battled, but 72-70 wasn't good enough to play the weekend.

I was able to bring the family out to experience what tour life can be like. They had a blast. Having Nicki and Zac to breakfast in the family room brought me back to when I was a squirt tagging along with my dad. Doesn't get much better than that.

It was nice to get another taste. Looking forward to playing better in the next one.

I will be updating both the Results and Stats links on the top of this page, so they will be current even if I'm not posting as much.

One if the things I've struggled with in golf and life in general is trusting God, so I've been working on that. This year on the course I've had a big chunk of adversity early in every round, but unlike in years past I've been able to focus on each shot, letting go of what has happened earlier in the round. My dad has been able to watch me play a couple of times this year, and he commented on how much more at ease I seem. This is a big change, so praise God because He has really been helping me in this area.

Another big change I've made is on the putting green. My putting over the last few years hasn't been bad, but there wasn't any "spark." I finally decided to give a belly putter a try. The day before the Spanish Oaks Open I plugged one of my old putters, threw on a long grip, and so made a belly putter. The results? Game changing. My confidence on the greens is incredible, and it feels like I finally have that spark I've been looking for. And my results have shown that.

So, although I now am able to play only once or twice a week, my game has been maturing. I am very much looking forward to getting in contention in a few tourneys this year.

Family Update: Nicki and I are having a blast raising our son Zac. We are so thankful for the joy he brings us every day. We are also super pumped that his little sister is scheduled to make an appearance in September! Wow, that is exciting!

Just checking in. Great golf tournament this weekend. Graeme has had a great year, really fun to watch. That tournament definitely seems like one of the best tournaments of the year. Christmas-time, great course, good weather, great field, boat loads of money. It has always gotten me motivated.

So...beginning tomorrow to practice. The new year is almost here, and that means some tournaments are on the horizon. I'm missing the Nevada Open and the Utah Pro-assistants this week, but it will be nice to get out and hit a few.

I'll be playing as much as possible in 2011, although most of my golf may be on the weekends (that's when tournaments happen). We'll see what happens, but I've stumbled into a pretty good gig, and family is a big thing to take care of...

I thank God every day for putting me right where I'm at, and I'm going to make the most of every opportunity I get. Whether it's in the golf world or somewhere else, I'll be ready.

(see last post)! We're so thankful, it was in answer to our prayers. Nicki is going to get to stay home with little Zac. That is VERY good! I've been at it for a little over a week, and it's been great. I got lucky, it's a great company.

Where does this blog go?? Who knows. Is the story of a weekend warrior something that people want to hear about? Maybe, maybe not, but that has never really been what this site was about. This site has been about keeping in touch with people who cared. I think those people will hang around. Other than that...I'm going to keep telling my experiences on and off the course. Golf is not over. I'm looking forward to some new challenges.

Thanks for hanging.

Luke

Life

Calls.
