State of the Game
Feb 6, 2010 at 9:17PM The golf world has some momentum of late, especially with the rumored return of Tiger. We'll see what happens with that. I see a lot of friends on the leaderboards of the various tours, including the PGA Tour leaderboard the last few weeks. One guy I've played a lot of golf with has been making a splash all over the world. Graham Delaet, a friend I've known since college, has been lighting it up. After two very successful seasons on some of the "lesser known" world tours, he's off to a very solid start on the PGA Tour this year. Pretty cool seeing a guy you know pretty well start to make it big.
As for me, my shotmaking has been relegated to the exibition variety. The only shots I've hit the last 4 months have been in the process of showing the youth of Utah what to do. I'll hit a couple of chips a day, then a couple of putts. Teaching a lot, playing little. It's a weird place, wanting it more than ever, not being able to play much. The weather in Utah has been exceptional for golf this year, but I haven't been able to take advantage of that.
So, I'm hoping to get in some work in the next 2 months. There is still a quite healthy summer tour around the West where I could make some progress. I'm hoping I get the chance to take advantage of that. Honestly, I want the golf career to happen more than ever. It is the thing I would love to do for the rest of my life. I'm blessed no matter what though. With my family and faith, I will be happy no matter what. A little extra time to practice would be nice...
So back to Tour golf. Guys I like... To be honest I like a lot of the foreigners. Rory Mcilroy, Graeme Mcdowell, Ernie Ells, Ryo Ishikawa. Kind of weird, because I am a true blue American. These guys are likeable, though. There are more, but I find myself rooting for a lot of guys not from here.
Hope your are all well. Hopefully we will return with some more stories of life on the tour.
Stay tuned.

Hi Luke,
Will you play on the Canadian Tour in 2010 ?
Luke,
I know what you are saying. Going from player to instructor can be a little tedious at first.
It will take a toll on your game too but there is something about instructing anything that is better than anything.
To be able to make a difference in people's lives is a wonderful way to make a living, especially dhildren's lives. I do not know a golf instructor that doesn't like at least teaching kids.
Anyway, as a 49 year old golf instructor that has been around teaching for over twenty years I have one bit of advice. If you are going to play golf for a living the time to do it is now.
The time to teach is when you have realize you just do not want it enough.
right now it sounds like you have success in family but not in your personal life.
Succes in your personal life would mean less success in your married life.
Life is a constanct tug between: Financial, Emotional, Physical and Intellectual and then of course we can chunk down from there.
No Canadian Tour for me in 2010 Luc, unless something changes quickly. Just some local tournaments and the state opens out west.
Thanks for the comments ungolf pro. I still want it, teaching has been a means to an end. Gotta pay the bills.
