Working on 2008
Dec 19, 2007 at 10:20AM Nothing is set in stone yet, but I'm starting to really put together my schedule for next year. Right now the plan is to play the Canadian Tour full-time in the summer months. They're trying to add a few more events this season, so that is a good thing. The more options every week the better.
Early next year will probably be a mix of mini-tour events, depending on how I like each tour. I think I'll be trying a couple I haven't played in yet. The Butch Harmon Tour in Vegas has been pretty solid, and it's much easier to drive to Vegas than Southern California. We'll see how those tournaments work out.
There is a new mini-mini-tour starting up in Utah too. The Wasatch Tour has been having some small events locally, and they're planning a tournament every other week this winter in St. George/Mesquite. These should help to fill up the winter schedule, giving me the best chance to be prepared going into the Canadian Tour season.
The weather has been really bad around here as it relates to golf, so these early season tournaments will be very important to get the rust off. I feel extra motivated this year, so I don't think the layoff has hurt me at all. I feel more refreshed than I ever have. Batteries are charged, and I'm ready to go.
Now we're going to have a great finish to the holiday season. I go a long time during the year without seeing my family and friends, so this is an important part of the year for me to get back in touch.
To get a feel for what my schedule might look like, here is a link to my calendar. Pretty rough right now, but it will get locked in as the year goes along.
Merry Christmas!
Luke

Obviously, your schedule is 100% tournament oriented, because that's your livelihood.
I'm wondering though, how your practice schedule compares. Is it as regimented? Or, do you fit in sessions as needed in between rounds or in between events? Do you target mostly problem areas or is there a set routine you go through?
Theres always time to practice, and I use it. During a tournament, I try not to work on my mechanics as much as when I'm at home. If there is a problem, I'll still work on it a bit, but I leave the main swing work to early in the week or when I'm at home. I'll do a lot of work around the green during the tournament, as that's a lot less mechanical thing to work on.
When I'm just out to practice I kind of have a regiment, but every day I'll tailor it to what I think I need to fix. Some days I hit a lot of balls, some days not so many. Short game work is always important, so I try work on it whenever I practice.
Luke,
Enjoy your time with your family over the holidays. And have an awesome christmas. I will be following you (not stalker like) as grind through your tournaments. And don't forget Pine Ridge has your name wrtten all over it (no added pressure).
Here is to a great and successful 2008 season!
See you in a few months.
Chris
