Blog Time!

It's been awhile. Sorry for the absence. I have had no idea what this year holds, and there hasn't been a lot of golf content to speak of. Sorry about all that.

I've been playing the last few days. It seems like we're over the hump here in Utah, and I expect more good weather days than bad from here on out. It's time to brush the dust off the sticks.

Our work life has seen some good developments over the last couple of days. My wife got a solid job after being laid off due to cutbacks near Christmas, and I've got a decent gig lined up for April if all else fails. My main motivation right now is to get my game in shape, and figure out a way to play a full schedule this year.

We'll see, but for the next few months at least, I'll be devoting myself to becoming a better player. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to play the first Canadian Tour event (Modesto, CA). After that, very much up in the air. I do know one thing: Making a good check there will make everything a whole lot easier.

I'll let you know how the work is coming along...

Back

Haven't had much fire lately, but I went out today to hit a few chips and a few putts. Wow, it's a fun game. The "work" part of it is extremely fun too.

So I've been hitting putts all day while watching some sports with my dad. Ordered some new grips for the clubs. While I'm still not sure what this year holds, I'm ready to work on the game again.

Crossroads

Life has a way of calling. I'm sure most of you have experienced this point in life. I'm not quite sure I'm there yet, but I'm close.

I don't want to stop playing golf right now; I would love a little security in life. There is my dilemma.

On the golf side of things, I know I have a great place to play this year. I also believe that I can make it to the PGA Tour. Whether that will come from more work, the right breaks, a good clearing out of the mind, or doing much the same as I've been doing, that I don't know. It's a tough thing to be on the doorstep of success, still facing the possibility of being done with professional golf. Right now, I am certainly planning on the first Canadian Tour event in California. After that?

On the "real job" side of life, it's even more complicated. I did very well in school, had good grades, graduated in econ, all that. Being out of school for 5 years without a "real job" doesn't necessarily lend well to getting the type of job that may have been available at graduation. So how much my degree is worth at this point, I'm not sure. My goal in life was to make it on the tour. In the case that didn't happen, I planned on using my mind to become very successful outside of the golf business. If there was a financially viable option right now, I would be seriously considering it. (NOTE: Real job is in quotes simply to separate it from my golf career, not to imply that professional golf isn't a real job.)

I would love to have a job that kept me around golf. That's the main point in attending the USGA workshop. Being a part of championship golf at the highest levels would be second only to playing at the highest levels. I don't know if a club pro job would be right for me, but it would keep me playing and give me a chance to play in local tournaments. Not a whole lot of money these days in the pro shop, but...

So right now, things are up in the air. I'm not sure which way I'm going to go. I'm looking around, keeping my options open, and planning on winning the first Canadian Tour event of the year.
